Marianne Creatables - Make a border

Last week I showed you a border made with a small leaf die from one of the Marianne Creatables die sets, obtainable from my supplier Make a Lasting Impression (see link on side bar).

     Here is my 2" x 6" Border

From a small die - a big  8 x 6 card!

  Since the paper is a beautiful tree design it fits in nicely with the die shapes

 and gives  the effect of falling leaves!

Elusive Images and Joy Craft Corners

Another day, another card.....this one was a commissioned card for a lady celebrating her 90th Birthday. 
I have used this stamp from Elusive Images Floral Spray (link on side bar)  before as an A6 card, but this time I needed an A5 card.

Again I stamped the image straight on the card with distress ink (Forest Moss) and dragged the ink in on a few of the leaves, but

instead of the scored lines, used the corner borders from Joy Crafts

On a second stamping of the image, I cut away some of the leaves, coloured the flowers with Promarkers and triple embossed, added to image with foam pads

and the finished card....

Unfortunately the last two pictures are not showing the true colours, but I delivered the card yesterday before I looked at the pictures!  I don't like the bottom die, it's too heavy, but having stuck it on, on it had to stay!

Off now to play, that's after putting the washing out - back soon to show you some more lovely stamps.

 

Nestabilities - Big Scallop Squares make corners

Need a quick but interesting card? 

This stamp from Elusive Images called Tulip Script suit the task well.  I used Promarkers to colour the image and distress inks to colour the background, then added 1 layer of embossing powder.  The corners are actually two big scallop squares.  Job done!

Thanks for your comment.  You asked about the card I used for my Mice birthday card - it was a texture called "leather" (I think) - but sorry I can't tell you where I got it from.  You should be able to find it in most craft shops.  Couldn't reply direct you left no contact address. 

Cuttlebug Folder, Nestabilitie Oval Scallop, and stamping

Need a quick card?  BUT, also an interesting one - How's about this ....

Materials Used:
6 x 6 Cream Hammer card
CB - Swiss Dots Folder
2 Oval scallop dies
Vintage corner die
Harmony Alphabet
Decorative paper
Border punch
Stamp, ribbon and gems

 

I first embossed the front edge of the card, then covered the with DP with a shaped edge.  Any border punch would be fine, but this was actually cut with a Fiskar stencil template.

Cut and add the corners - to make these easier to fasten to the card, I always put DST (see glossary) on the back of the card before I cut. You can see this in more detail under the label : Alphabets on my sidebar.  On this card I also needed numbers, which were cut in actually the same way.

Cut 2 oval dies - one in cream card, the other in the same patterned paper.

Add your stamped image - not sure what this stamp is called or the manufacturer - there were some smaller flowers on the image, but I cut them off!  The mottled effect was achieved by using different colours of chalk and then covering with glossy accents.

This is not just a Cuttled card - it combines embossing,  papercrafting and stamping, but it's still an quick and easy to achieve card with texture, colour and interest.  Hope you like it!

Cuttlebug - 2009 Top Tips - No 4

As we near the end of 2009 which has been a busy year for me, I thought I would look back at some of the postings in the Cupboard. I have done so many tutorials and postings that I was amazed and surprised at what I found hidden away and had forgotten about! This led me to think of what I considered to be my best tips of the year and for the next four days I will show you what I consider to be my top 4 Tips for using your Cuttlebug and dies. You may have seen these, but just in case not, I don't want you to miss them!

Today my Top No.4 tip has to be using my small dies to make charms for cards. These have proved to be really useful for displaying birthday ages and wedding anniversaries.  You will find more ideas for using these charms under the label: Love and Marriage.

The last week has been hectic for me but I still managed to make a couple of cards using my Cuttlebug.

At the risk of becoming boring, I have used my Butterfly Shapeabilities to make a completely different card to last week's, because I thought you might like to see just what you can do with the smallest die.


Using a mottled beige cardstock cut to make a 5.1/2" square card, stamp a large swirl in gold ink and embossed with a clear embossing powder. 2 Fancy Corner die cuts finished the base card. Don't throw away the pieces left over - these can be used to decorate inside corners.


For the embellishment I used a thick handmade patterned paper to
cut a large butterfly and embossed this with the Paisley Cuttlebug folder.


To increase the boldness of the butterfly, use a glue stick to add a thick layer of glue to the edges. Cover with gold embossing powder and melt the power and glue with a heat gun.


This is the effect you get.



To complete the butterfly's body use : 2 eyelets and some twisted gold thread. Gold wire and beads for the antennae.
Cut 4 small gold mirror card butterflies.











Attach back to back over the gold thread to make 2 charms on which I have added numbers for this special birthday card.










Still using the Butterfly theme, cut and emboss the larger die - ink the edges and stamp in some way and you have your inside card completed.

I'm sure you will like the charms that you can make
with these small dies. Here I have used the heart dies on this Diamond Anniversary card.
Simple but very effective embellishment!

Spellbinder - Ovals and Squares - Make your own corners

Hi there, my 28th Christmas card is a fun card for my Granddaughter.  Snowmen, Teddy, Cat and of course Glitter.  Having included all these necessities, I even managed to sneak in a couple of Cuttlebug touches for you!

The Nestie Ovals speak for themselves, but if you look at the corners....these are not punched, but cut from a Nestie Square.  If you would like to see how to do this....check it out here

Caitlin is very excited because she is going to be Mary in the school's Nativity play. Her Grandad asked "Is there a donkey...Yes...what's do you call this donkey...Josh...Is he a good donkey...No...He tried to strangle me!" Kids!! Hope he's better behaved on the day!!!

Nestabilities and Mock Layering

In order for me to keep this blog open I will occasionally post a slightly shorter tutorial of a card that features bits and bobs of Die Cuts and CB folders.. This is one such card.

Materials used:
6 x 6 Square Cream Hammer Card
Gold Glimmer Card
CB Folder Stylised Flowers and MFP
2 Nestabilitie square dies
Fiskar Border Punch - Treading Water
See-D's Floral Daisy Stamp


The base card is embossed using the MFP method, which you can check on here.

Punch a stripe of 6 x 3 card and attach over the spine of the card. With a scoreboard emboss lines for texture and added interest. Also punch out a small piece of border for a corner piece.


Now for a bit of mock laying! THIS IS A NEW IDEA!

Cut a square with your die. Leave the cut square in the die
with the cut edge upper most, and emboss the edge with
an embossing pen.

Remove cut square from the first die and tape a smaller die to the front of the embossed square with the cut side down. Turn over, find
the inside rim of the die and emboss as before.









When you remove the die this is the embossing you have made.
You can then just add an embellishment, or a stamped image on
another mat as I have done.









I love this little daisy stamp which I decoupaged and also used on the inside of the card.

The effect you get is well worth the effort!

Tippy Thursday

Following my tip on gummed up scissors, I received the following from fellow crafters.

Chrissie - A wipe with Sansodor works well - and would you believe it I have a bottle of this sitting looking at me on my desk!

Sylvie - Betterware sticky stuff remover also works, and thanks for the invite to catch the sun, unfortunately you forgot to leave your address for me to visit (lol).

Samantha and Louise from DC tell me that if you're a clean up after use crafter, (obviously I'm not or there would be no gummed up scissors in my pot) alcohol free baby wipes do this and also many more things. Probably ungum my fingers too!

Now the for inside of my "Wibbly Wobby" Card.

I have used:
Red and Black pieces of card
Fiskar punch - Treading Water
Nestabilitie - Large Classic Circle
Embossing Pen
Stamps.
The small stamps are from See-D's - Boys Toys set
Cut out the large circle, emboss edges with pen and stamp

Punch border on the Red and Black card - (saving the red circles bits from the red card), and stamp

Attach red border






Position double sided tape on the back of the black card across the holes.
Don't remove the backing.
Turn over and press the red circle bits into the holes.
Now remove the tape and attach to the corner and trim.
Hey Presto - your corner.






The finished inside of my card - the football theme continued!

I love using up bits and pieces of scrap and when using plain card borders, adding these small throw aways creates a great effect.

Nestabilities - Wibbly Wobbly Card

I'm calling this week's card a "wibbly wobbly" one - the name just suits the type of card and effect you get. This is a very easy card to make, but the result nevertheless looks good.

Materials needed:
8" x 4" Black cardstock - centre scored
3.3/4" Square of red card embossed with
Cuttlebug Happy Birthday folder
2 Nestie circles
2 Nestie squares
Stamps and a coil of thin wire

After stamping the images on the circles - next secure the wire
to the back of back circle and glue the two circles together.



The wire is then attached to the back of the embossed square - not very tidy, but the front looks okay.













Your embellishment can now be mounted on the base cardstock.

You could leave your card like this, but I promised last week to show you how to get a different use out of your Nestie Squares which will add to the overall effect and is well worth the effort.

I have used them to make photo corners. I have been looking for a punch to do this, but couldn't track one down. So....I improvised.....

Using a magnetic mat, position two squares as shown and cut.










After cutting, remove the inner square and keeping the card
inside the outer, with an embossing pen emboss run round the edge.







This is the the effect you get and you then only need to cut across the corner. Your photo corner!

The best of this is that you can do different thickness of corners by using
different sizes of squares and you could also vary the length. Something
that you cannot do with a punch! Thinking about it now....you could place
more than two squares on the magnetic mat and make lots...and the middle is not wasted...you can always use this as a mat!

I have decorated the inside of the card, but time restraints mean I will have to show you this on Tippy Thursday's post. I can tell you, however, that I was really chuffed with the result. This time I did use a punch, with a twist!?!?!?
