Nestabilities Pendant and Border dies - Chocolate Baroque Doodle Stamps

Monday does seem to come round quicklythese days!  Today for my tutorial I thought I would show you another of my DT cards, this time using one of the new Doodle stamps......

Materials used:
A4 sage green card, extra sage green, dark green and white card, decorative paper
Nestabilies Pendant and Border die: Spades
Nestabilies: Classic Squares, and Oval
CB: Doodle Rose
Creative Expression Mask : Ivy
Distress inks, Marvy la Plume pens, ribbon

Method:  Centre score and fold A4  sage green card.
With large square die emboss onto the card using the sandwich I gave you a couple of weeks ago.  - you will the recipe on my embossing page.   Or you could use a magnetic mat - you will find info and examples on how to do this in the label section on my sidebar under Magnetic mats.
Cut the second smaller coloured square and emboss with a mask or folder.
Cut and emboss the Pendant die from decorative paper.
Cut and emboss the border from the same card as the base card. (I left the cutouts in place and secured with tape).
Cut an oval from white card - colour the stamp with Marvy la Plume pens and then stamp - emboss with the mask and colour with DI's.
Assemble, threading the ribbon through the pendant and fix on the back of the square.

Hope you're still with me this take some explaining!   And,  that you are tempted to try the embossing - yet another way of using your dies -  and all your dies can be used this way!  It may sound difficult but it's really easy - trust me I'm a Cuttlebug crafter (lol).

Marianne Creatables - Make a border

Last week I showed you a border made with a small leaf die from one of the Marianne Creatables die sets, obtainable from my supplier Make a Lasting Impression (see link on side bar).

From a small die - a big  8 x 6 card!

  Since the paper is a beautiful tree design it fits in nicely with the die shapes

 and gives  the effect of falling leaves!

Tippy Thursday - Making borders

Tippy Thursday again, and today I'm looking at using those little dies that tend to get overlooked!

This die is my most recent purchase.

It's from the Marianne Creatables range and consists of 3 dies.  The fancy scalloped rectangle and 2 leaves.  Stating the obvious - the leaves can be used as leaves, but is there something else you can do with them?

How about making a border......

I make my own cards and have lots of strips of card left over like this...

Using the Bug sandwich:  A  /  B  / card  /  die cut down  /  C

(All of the die cutting tips I give can be adapted to your own machine, but because I only have experience of  the Bug, and feel I don't need tell you what recipe to use, because you will know!  BUT, if you do need help - just ask).

 

From a peice of card 6" x 2" you will have 4 leaves and the die cut strip...now

I have added two scored lines to the top and bottom of the strip, then when placed over a decorative paper...you have a nice little border, which can be adjusted in length to suit your project.

 AND, you still have 4 leaves to use!

Time restraints have not allowed me to finish my card....hopefully later I will be able to get it finished!! 

Hope you like this idea of using your smaller dies....don't leave them at the back of the Cupboard....get them out and make full use of your of all your dies!

                                                                         

Joy Crafts - Crafts Too You - Elusive Images

Remember this....it was  my post on Monday illustrating my diamond Joy Crafts die and the Christmas Greetings folder from Crafts 2U. 

Well I added a Mince Pie.....coloured with Promarkers

Then I added a few more......embossed in gold .....sat them on a border of green

added another gold border.....and now there are......

 

six!

  

Oh, joy  - mince pies one of the goodies that come with Christmas! 

This little stamp is, of course, from Elusive Images, and I have others from the set to show you...soon.

Crafts too You - Joy Craft

I have been playing with my C2U Christmas Greetings folder again.

I found that it embossed on various weights of cardstock successfully.  I also embossed on thin paper and this was okay (see red above), but I would suggest putting a piece of scrap paper over your paper to avoid risking the fibres breaking.  It is possible to cut out the greetings, and if the size is to big.....you can cut them down and replace the lines using your scoreboard - I did this on the gold tag above.

Now I had a gold tag - what to do with it?  Well I found in the cupboard (as  you do) sometimes (ah ah) a die that I'd just had to buy and never used....

it's from Joy Crafts.

Some of the dies on the market although lovely, are a bit fiddly to stick on your project, so I use the same method I use for cutting alphabets

and stick double sided tape on the back of my card before cutting.

                        

Another tip:  If you are having problems removing the cut from the die you can use wax paper when cutting, or I have found this works okay and that is to rub a candle over the die, then with a cloth buff (perhaps polish is a better word) the die. 

I thought to fancy up my greeting (and to echo another element on the card) I'd combine the two and.....

this is how they look together. 

At this point this is all I can reveal....it's part of a card for EIDT....the rest will follow shortly.

I'm finding this DT business very inspiring at a time when I needed something to stimulate my mojo, and although it seems that I'm not posting ideas for you, I'm actually doing a lot of interesting crafting working on new stamps soon to be launched.  As you know I've always liked EI stamps, but the new ones are pushing me out of my comfort zone and I'm loving it and can't wait to share them with you.

Cuttlebug Cupboard - Spellbinder Mega Rectangles

Today's tutorial is based on the Spellbinder's Mega Rectangles,  I actually did this way back in January, and somehow forgot to post it!  But, better later than never.

As with all the label dies, the difference between the sizes means that layering is more difficult.  If you like wide borders, you are okay - but what if you like to have narrow borders?  My friend, Andrea explained this to me, but it was only by playing that I cottoned on.   Cool Andrea! This is how you do it.

With the same die, cut 2 shapes  The die-cut with the image is then embossed.  You can use the TAN mat or an embossing tool to run round the edge whilst the die-cut in still in the die.   Following the line of the embossing, cut off the embossing.

and when fixed together.....you have a narrow border!  An alternative way would be to cut and emboss round the image as usual, then draw round the die and cut with scissors.  I have tried both ways and found that by cutting the edge off of the inner shape it was less noticeable if the cut was not exact! 

The next part of my card was to cut another die-cut - this time I used a border from the Joy Crafts range. These dies are smaller than the Spellbinders, but have their uses in your craft box.  Having cut the die, I inked and dusted with Metallic Perfect Pearls which is perfect for a grunge look!

Next some simple matting and layering, which I actually find not so simple to get square!

The image is a digital download from Sketching Stamper which I love!  It's big and bold and beautiful!!

I recently made this decorative jar to celebrate the 1st Anniversary of  WOYWW and have been asked how I did it, so.......

It started life as a very plain plastic jar that was given to me as a freebie.

What I did:  Using two coats of Alcohol Inks in Pitch Black, Mushroom and Raspberry I inked the jar.  Unfortunately AI doesn't like to be photographed!  Shame because the finish is great giving a rich and luxurious colouring.

I cut 2 bands with a Joy Craft border die and stuck them to the jar with difficulty using just about every glue I had.  And, in the end with very sticky fingers I managed it!  AND, more importantly, they have remained stuck!!  

Next a Label 4 die cut from gold mirri card and coloured with AI. 

The flower looked daft stuck on the lid, so not to be thwarted I glued them to the bottom where there was a convenient dimple.  All I needed then were some metal flowers and a dragonfly dusted with glitter glue and pearl drops to complete my to piece to celebrate Julia's amazingly successful WOYWW.  Thanks Julia for all your work over the past year - it's been fun!

What will I do with my little jar?!?!?!  Originally I thought I'd fill it with the names of all the WOYWWers on week 52, but now it's standing on its lid, I'm going to fill it with sand and it will become a ...... pretty paperweight!

Nestabilities - Jumbo Scallop and Big Scallop Squares

I thought I would really go scallops today.....

so using the Jumbo scallop border to make a decorative edge, layered  this over a DP from Basic Grey and covered the base card.  Then   embossed  and distress inked the edges.

The second scallop on my card was made using the other Jumbo die in the set.  Again emboss  edges and then stamped over with background stamp from PB.  The die lends itself to a ribbon tie!

The third scallops on my card.......Big scallop squares.....glittered (not my usual style!) and set at a jaunty angle.....

Although I love my Promarkers for colouring floral images, I find animals more difficult but couldn't resist having a go at this cute image!

Cuttlebug, Nestabilites, Borderabilities - Christmas 14

My Cuttlebug, Embossing Folders, Nestabilities, Borderabilities all have contributed to making this card

I used:
6" x 6" White Linen card
Crafts-too-you Snowflake folder
Borderabilities -Spade die
Nestabilites - Mega Rectangle
Dark blue paper, ink, various stamps
Ribbon, gem and stickles

Using the card as a tent fold - debossed the pattern so that it overlaps the centre fold, which you can then finish off with a scored line. This give a decorative edge to the inside of the card.

Stamping always gives me the jitters....
especially when I try to be clever! You will see that I have only die cut part of the Mega Rectangle Nestabilitie. The edges I chalked and added stickles in parts.
Now I stamped a border on the plain paper, and attached to the card leaving the top edge open to make a flap for the die cut to slot into. A dark blue wide ribbon covers the join.

Taking the ribbon over to the inside, (along with the now embossed pattern showing) the card is nicely decorated with the addition of a star.

The card was completed by sticking 2 Spades Borders together, one in blue the other in silver mirror board. You can see this technique here. All I needed then was a sprig of holly!
I like to ring the changes and try something different. This turned out well and I felt pleased to have combined different techniques, folders and dies. I buy must have's, but don't use - I think you'll know what I mean!

Cuttlebug Tutorial - Christmas No.10

On my CCC No. 10 I've gone for bells! A week ago I showed you how to use the Bell Wedding Folder to make a tag and then a card. Today something different with the same folder.
To make this card I used:
4" x 6" Red Hammer Card
CB Wedding Bell Folder
Score Board
Nestie Classic scallop oval
stamped image, ribbon

You will see from this picture how to achieve a border with a small 2" square folder. I always use a MFP (see link or glossary) because this avoids any crease and folder marks on the card.
Unfortunately, not a good picture but I think you will be able to see NO crease or folder lines.

Fortunately, this is a better picture. and you can see how I completed the embossing.

You can also use the folder to emboss inside or on the back of the card.

Back to a poor picture, not sure whether it's the light or camera.

I'm not too happy with this! I like the embossing but the image is not right and it needs a bit of tweaking, but the card does illustrate how to use a small folder to emboss, so it serves its purpose.
