Why Weight

Hello, I hope you feeling good and very positive about what you want to achieve. Keep these feelings and your written answers close at hand, these good feelings are something you are going to need at times on your weight journey to your goal.

Having said that, today we are looking at NOW! Your weight today and how that makes you feel. What are the facts about NOW (possible nothing to wear despite a wardrobe full of clothes, not thinking - just eating, your weight today etc). What are your feelings and emotions today - do you feel alone, confused, unwell, different, depresssed, angry, sad, hurting? The dictionary definition of emotion is "emotion is a pleasure or painful condition of the mind". Acknowledging your DREAM was a pleasureable experience, but what about NOW? Being overweight can be a most painful experience.

When you recall the feeling of the DREAM and examine them again the feelings of now - I'm sure you now know which way you want to go.

The question is what are your first steps. Well you have taken the first steps by reading this, next you need to decide on what kind of diet you want to follow. I believe that the diet that works for you is the right one to follow. You know what works for you. If you are the kind of person who needs to be told what you are going to eat, then you are looking for a very strict diet that doesn't give you the opportunity to be tempted. This type of diet is the fixed menu type - you like to feel you are on a diet and can successfully cut out your favourite foods. You may, on the other hand, know that you will never be able to follow such a plan, so need a diet that allows you more freedom. A diet that allows you to have your treats (within reason remembering that you have decided to lose weight in order to get to your dream)!. You could also folllow a middle of the road plan that allows you freedom to select your own meals within a structured plan, a plan that allows you to choose a serving from each of the food groups. This type of plan does give you more variety and knowledge of portion contol that will be invaluable when you come to maintaining your weight. Whatever was successful for you in the past and you enjoyed (a questionable word, but if you think about it, you did enjoy losing weight and the good feelings that came from your success) this is the type of diet you should follow. If it worked before, it will work again, because it suited you. However, you should avoid questionable/fad diets that suggest you should eat limited foods to promote weight loss. These diets may work in the short term because they are low in calories. BUT, they are not well balance and cause nutrient deficiencies and do not teach you good eating habits that are essential for life long weight control. A good diet plan should give you a weekly weight loss of 1 to 2 lbs, and for it to succeed it must be a plan that suits you.
You may possible prefer to forget about dieting and concentrate on changing to a lifesyle which would lead to controlling/maintaining your weight not only for you but for all your family. Your weight, height and activity level effects the amount of carlories your body needs to maintain a constant level. A moderately active woman would need approximately 2000 calories per day to maintain her weight. There are of course exceptions to the rule, remember this is only an approximate figure but it it something to work round. This means counting calories and more exercise, but some programmes work it out for you. But, the bottom line is you have to eat less than your body needs in order to lose that unwanted weight.
Experience has shown that the diet must suit you, this will mean that you will be able to stick to it and not be searching to find a "better" one round the corner! If you have dieted before you will have a favourite - one that you feel happy with - THAT'S THE ONE TO GO FOR!

Keep thinking about the difference between feeling good and not good. Find your diet, get out your scales and find out your weight today. Then if you want to join my chat group over on Facebook where we can support each other, leave me your email addy in the comments section on the home page and I will invite you to join my closed group. Your email addy will come to me and will not appear in the comments because I can delete the message instead of posting it. This will be a private group, and to join you will need to registry with Facebook, unfortunately the blogger system of opening other pages does not allow comments or daily posts, and also I feel we need a private place where we can speak of our progress and sort out our problems and this is the only way I can think of.

If you decide to go it alone - I wish you well

Hi, Welcome to my Why Weight page - a new page  - new start!

If you have arrived here, like me, you have a weight problem and I hope that by reading about my new way of looking at weight problems you will decide to join me and we can help and support each other whilst losing weight.  As I said last week, I worked for many years in the weight loss industry for Weight Watchers and then because of the way that selling breakfast bars overtook the Manager's interest in my groups weight loss - I left and wrote my own programme based on the psychology behind weight problems.  In other words, WHAT GOES ON IN OUR HEADS!

I really do believe that losing weight is easy if your head is right!  BUT, first you have to look inside your head, because your head is controlling your feelings and your eating!

Lets make a start.......
First of all, what do you want?  It's not enough to say "be thin" that's too easy!   What does "being thin" mean to you?  This is often a tough question because to answer it you need to look deeply at YOU, and at why and at what is causing you to have a weight problem.   It is not just overeating!  Behind every overweight person, there is something else going on?!?!!?  That's why it's a tough question to answer, because often the answer is painful to accept or even see.

Before we think about what we are going to do and how we are going to do it, today I want you to take time out to think of your DREAM.   Put yourself back here in MARCH 2012.  What do you see?   What have you achieved?......What are you wearing?.....What are you now doing differently?....and how to you feel about YOU?  Are you Happy?  Is happy the right word?  Is life different?  Do you feel more confident?  Are you healthier?  Fitter?  In control of food and eating?  Feel confident in your swimming costie instead of hiding behind a towel?   Picture you...sense your DREAM and feel and enjoy the emotions of being there. THEN when you see it; feel it; write it down This is your goal!   Acknowledging your ‘dream’ is essential to getting there. Make it positive and possible. You cannot achieve anything if you don’t know what it is you want. It is like driving up to a roundabout and not knowing which road you need to get off. Going round and round - do you know the feeling? Have you been there before with dieting; got the diet tee-shirt?

I wrote this programme from my experience of helping people to lose weight, I felt that “something” more was needed than a diet sheet, and so you have WHY WEIGHT. I accept that change is difficult, but if diet sheets and clubs have failed to help you to lose and maintain your weight, it is change that you need.  Give it a go - you have nothing to lose but weight, and great deal to gain in knowledge of yourself.

We are starting with the future - you will have heard the old saying "think before you leap" I'm asking you to   "think before you diet"!  Write down your  DREAM and the way it makes you feel.  Tomorrow.....we will look at NOW!
